This year's COMmon Read will focus on Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora. Join us to discuss the first few chapters of the book!
Solito is a true story by Javier Zamora, a nine-year-old boy who immigrated alone from El Salvador, where he lived with his grandparents and aunt, to San Rafael, California, where his parents lived. As we read the story, we see Javier and the group of strangers that he joins encountering many terrifying obstacles: Almost drowning in the sea, almost dying of thirst in the desert, almost losing it all when getting arrested by Border Patrol, and many other harrowing episodes.
