Umoja Nature & Poetry Walk

Thursday, November 14, 2024
2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Meet at the Umoja Village

This is a campus-wide event, everyone is invited!

Join UMOJA and the library for a nature walk as part of the 2024-25 COMmon Read! Bring your walking shoes! We’ll meet near the Umoja Village. We’ll start with a brief poetry reading related to nature and then walk along the Corte Madera Creek.

Ada Limón is the US Poet Laureate. She grew up in Sonoma, and she's the first Latina US Poet Laureate. She'll be coming to the College of Marin on Thursday, March 13, 2024, and Professor Erin McBride Africa will direct a play inspired by her poetry.

“I want to champion the ways reading and writing poetry can situate us in the natural world. Never has it been more urgent to feel a sense of reciprocity with our environment, and poetry’s alchemical mix of attention, silence, and rhythm gives us a reciprocal way of experiencing nature—of communing with the natural world through breath and presence.” -U.S. Poet Laureate, Ada Limón.
