Join us to honor and celebrate the prolific art, revolutionary spirit, and ongoing social justice work of world-renowned graphic artist Dr. Emory Douglas upon the opening of his permanent collection at the College of Marin. The evening program will feature legendary speakers and live music followed by refreshments and an opportunity to view the collection. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Emory Douglas is the Veteran Revolutionary Artist and Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party. His iconic artwork, which appeared on the covers and pages of the Black Panther Newspaper, was the visual mouthpiece and cultural aesthetic of the Black Panther Party, its politics, and programs. Dr. Douglas is a working artist who continues to create powerful political art that reflects the urgency of global struggles for social justice and serves as an inspiring call for solidarity, resistance, and liberation among oppressed and colonized peoples around the world. Dr. Douglas’s art has been exhibited in galleries around the world, including the October 2023 exhibit The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas: Black Liberation, Global Justice at the College of Marin Fine Arts Gallery. Emory Douglas’s work at the College of Marin will be the first and only permanent exhibition of his work in the world.
